Greed (Fullmetal Alchemist) Character Analysis
Greed is probably one of the more unique characters in manga. He is a character who is heartless, but at the same time, very caring. After all, his possessions are his and his only. Greed truly lives up to his name as he seeks to possess everything in the world.
Spot on with what I was thinking. I just finished up to 62 of FMAB. A part that stuck out what when Greed mulls over the thought that he really wanted “friends like them”. Given the debate with how he treated his group of Chimera’s one way with how he had compassion for them over how he said it was collecting possessions. Both appear to be equally true but do not cancel one or the other out. There’s this fine line over people desiring a group of friends and caring about that group of friends. Many times it’s one and the same. He wasn’t fond of lying and often said several times about the way he treats women, wanting to protect them and get them away from battle. Which also reflected his sense of greed in another way. Rather than “oh he’s so thoughtful over the ladies”, it goes back to his quote about all his wants when he is first introduced/self introduces. I saw it as he didn’t want to be wasteful even in battle, showing his greedy nature. He represented an interesting sin that had many dynamics that can make you ponder and question what you care about and what it is you would want. I really liked the point about how in a way a selfish achievement benefits others. It is probably the exclusion of others individualy and their well-being/welfare of othes that drives it borderline over the edge.
